The Vans Warped Tour brought us many big artists and Reel Big Fish was the first catch of the day. Besides the fact that it was reaching 100 on the mercury levels and every band on earth was playing to interrupt our sound, the guys were great. Wait a second...those aren't their real voices! DFS took Attack Attack to a driving range in Orlando to take them out of their rock star environment. David Koechner held a knife to Ian's throat during what we thought was an interview on August 6th 2010. He told us to meet him at his hotel room in Orlando because he was doing a show at the Orlando Improv later that night. We arrived at the hotel room and knocked on the door. David appeared from around the corner pushing a cleaning cart and wearing what looked like a maid's smock. The vibe was bad from the very beginning. At first glance, a pole and a fuzzy sock seem out of place above the heads of bands and celebrities during a DFS interview. The only DFS crew member with out a camera on set is usually the Sound Man. The job of the Sound Man is to record the voices of the interviewer(s) and the interviewee(s) during the interview and during the unique activities they participate in. The challenges a Sound Man faces over the course of an interview are, like other crew positions, very unique to that field of work. A number of things have to be considered...

The only thing more irish than playing bagpipes is of course talking about your band with snakes around your neck. We realized this after hanging out with James Lynch and Tim Brennan from the Dropkick Murphys. We took the duo to Gatorland in Orlando where reptiles run wild in their carefully constructed enclosures. We surprised them with an extremely long python which was placed around Ian, James and Tim's neck. The great thing about being a film crew is we don't always have to get permission to film, sometimes we just show up. That is exactly what we did to Maika from There For Tomorrow. We decided to visit him at his home in Orlando one morning and ran into his mother who was kind enough to show Ian some baby pictures. Maika was "pleasantly" surprised to see that Ian had broken into his house and decided to invite him into his music lab. The interview went really well and we got a lot of good footage. Fast cars, awesome band and a VERY COLD day...What more could we have asked for? We went to the Richard Petty Driving Experience in Orlando Florida with the members of New Found Glory who have enjoyed such hits as "My Friends Over You" and "All Downhill From Here".  It was a brisk 40 degrees with the windchill factor reaching a blistering "Wow, it is way too F*#$% cold" on the windchill scale of "Amazing" to "F*&# my life". We left Orlando for Tampa at 10AM and arrived at Rodriguez & Menendez Cigar Factory & Store at noon. We arrived before the owners so Xavier decided to have himself a drink at a restaurant next door while we waited. Throw ten people inside a tour bus with camera equipment and it makes for a very tight squeeze. We interviewed Sick Puppies inside their tour bus with the air-conditioning off for the cleanest sound possible. After ten minutes in the Florida sun, tour buses tend to get a little steamy. In this picture, Kevin can be seen kneeling and enjoying the heat. The whole point of DFS is to show a different side of artists, to entertain and to inform. Our reach is only as large as our audience participation. The smell has never been so horrid and the cookies have never been so sweet in Andy's kitchen. On August 6th 2010 we filmed the intro/outro to our first DFS episode.
